Audit and review
Nobody willingly puts his or her employees’ health & safety at risk, but how can you be sure that your work really is safe? And how can you be sure that you are complying with the ever changing legislation?
We can help by providing independent assurance about the adequacy of your systems and any need for improvement.
In practice our audit and review work often follows from an unplanned event – perhaps an accident or enforcement action, or an adverse report from an insurer. We are careful to be sensitive to our clients’ needs in what can be difficult circumstances, we are also focussed on ensuring that you do not over-react to what can be difficult circumstances. Our experience will help guide you and make an appropriate response. You may find the section on accident investigation helpful.
As with all our work, the solution that we provide will be tailored to your needs. Audit and review work is usually coupled to some other aspect of our work – particularly accident investigation or policy and planning but will typically involves some (or all) of the following elements:
- A review of standards being achieved – usually in the form of an ‘inspection’ type visit or visits
- Liaison with senior management to help us understand your key concerns and objectives
- Discussions with employees about their perceptions of health & safety standards
- Helping our client to understand what is good about their approach to health & safety, what can be improved and how
- Considering the costs and benefits of alternative course of action
- Devising an ‘action plan’ aimed at achieving our clients objectives
- Helping our clients to implement their action plan.
Case Study:
Bolton Wanderers FC (BWFC)

Pragma Consulting reviewed and developed BWFC’s health & safety management system and worked closely with the club on its implementation.

Our achievements were recognised in May 2008 by the British Safety Council with the presentation of the prestigious International Safety Award at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

The standards achieved by BWFC and Pragma Consulting have been recognised by the Premier League and the FA as being at the forefront of good practice in football management.
Pragma Consulting have helped BWFC to:
- Establish policies and procedures with a practical approach to health & safety.
- Be in a position to provide evidence of the club’s commitment and actions in health & safety
- Fully integrate health & safety into the club’s existing management systems.
- Implement practical risk assessments covering the full range of the club’s activities.
- Establish systems that embedded leadership of health & safety within the club’s culture.
- Continually improve health & safety standards
We continue to advise BWFC and carry out an annual audit on the club’s behalf with recommendations addressed to the Chief Executive.
